YouTube Shorts Thumbnail Downloader
Paste a YouTube Shorts link to find every public thumbnail size YouTube exposes. Standard video, live, embed, youtu.be, and raw video ID inputs also work.
A Shorts URL still contains a normal video ID
For a URL such as youtube.com/shorts/dQw4w9WgXcQ, the tool reads the 11-character ID after /shorts/. It then checks the public maximum, standard, high, medium, and default thumbnail variants and enables actions only for images YouTube returns.
Some Shorts do not expose every resolution. A missing maximum-resolution image does not prevent smaller variants from being downloaded, and it does not mean that the Short has no visible cover inside YouTube.
Know what the result can tell you
Use the returned files as public references, then check the dimensions before editing or reusing them.
Try the next real variant
If maxresdefault is missing and hqdefault is available, download the available file. Enlarging it will increase pixel dimensions but will not restore missing detail.
Do not stretch it to 9:16
A 16:9 public thumbnail is not a vertical Shorts canvas. Crop or redesign it for 9:16; stretching makes faces, text, and logos look distorted.
Some in-app covers are not exposed
A creator may select a frame for how a Short appears in parts of YouTube. If that exact frame is not one of the public image variants, this downloader cannot retrieve it.
Check rights before publishing
Public availability makes research and attribution easier, but it does not make another creator’s Shorts artwork copyright-free.

About Shorts thumbnails
How do I download a YouTube Shorts thumbnail?
Paste the Shorts URL, let TubeThumbnail check the public image variants, then download or copy any available result.
Can I paste a normal YouTube video URL?
Yes. The dedicated page is optimized for Shorts intent, but it reuses the complete TubeThumbnail parser and accepts every supported YouTube URL format.
Why is a Shorts thumbnail resolution unavailable?
YouTube does not expose every variant for every Short. Source resolution and processing can affect which standard thumbnail files exist.
Why can a downloaded Shorts thumbnail look horizontal?
The public delivery variants attached to a Short can use standard YouTube thumbnail frames such as 16:9 or 4:3. They are separate from the vertical frame selected or uploaded for some Shorts surfaces.
Is a public Shorts thumbnail the same as the original upload?
Not necessarily. TubeThumbnail retrieves public delivery files generated or exposed by YouTube; it cannot recover an unpublished source file or guarantee the creator's original resolution.
